What is family mediation?
Family mediation is a series of meetings in a safe, controlled and neutral environment between you, your ex-partner and a mediator, a trained conflict resolution professional. The aim of mediation is to find solutions to problems that arise during separation, such as financial and childcare issues, without the need to go to court.
As it’s often a calmer, more cost-effective and faster way to find solutions to conflicts regarding your separation, family mediation is many couple’s preferred way to resolve their differences. Indeed, the courts now expect anyone involved in a family dispute to explore mediation to help resolve matters before taking further legal action.
Under the new rules, you and your partner will need to attend a Mediation and Information Assessment Meeting (MIAM) either separately or together, before issuing court proceedings over a financial matter or children dispute. At the meeting, we will discuss the benefits and process of mediation, other methods of settling your disagreements and provide you with information about the various agencies who may be able to assist.
Why Choose Our Family Mediators?
At Phoenix Mediation, we specialise in helping people who are leaving relationships to settle a variety of different issues. This can include family disputes, decisions about finances, and arrangements for children and property. Our mediators provide a friendly, calm and professional approach to mediation and will guide the sessions towards finding solutions that work for you and your family.
As we are also experienced family lawyers, we understand how the law operates in practice and while we don’t provide specific advice, we can ensure your agreements satisfy the requirements of the law. Our mediators are also all members of Resolution, a national association of specialist family lawyers committed to a non-confrontational approach to family problems.
